This new board is designed around the same MIC2570 boost-mode regulator, and is designed to fit inside a pocket-size tin.

The circuit board design is close to done, with a diameter of just under 1 1/4". The flashlight will contain a 3V coin cell and be operated by a double-action switch, the kind used on cameras to first focus then take the photo.

I've ordered some "THC3" white LEDs from lsdiodes.com, which according to them can be operated at up to 100mA constant current. Press lightly and you'll get a little light, press harder and you'll get a lot of light.

The parts are on their way, and hopefully I'll find a chance to mill the PCB sometime soon. Stay tuned!
